Bioinformatics

The vast amount of information generated by the development of molecular biology and sequencing techniques has led to the need for developing storage and organization techniques for the sequence data. This has led to the field of Bioinformatics. This field involves the creation, maintenance, and utilization of databases of biological information to advance the understanding of biological processes.

In this field, some important tasks are to:

We have established a database for bioinformatic analysis of Halobacterium sp. NRC-1 as well as several other Halophiles. It is named HaloWeb and publicly available at http://halo.umbc.edu/.

Feedback and input from educators at any level would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Priya DasSarma by email.
